Understanding the Diseases

• Johne’s Disease: This chronic and often fatal infection affects the small intestine of ruminants, causing thickening of the intestine walls and preventing normal food absorption. It leads to wasting, starvation, and eventual death. Johne’s is a global problem affecting various ruminants, including goats.

 

- CAE (Caprine Arthritis and Encephalitis): CAE, caused by a lentivirus, results in multiple diseases in goats, including arthritis, pneumonia, mastitis and weight loss in adults, as well as encephalitis in kids.

 

How we Collect Blood for Testing

To test for these diseases blood samples are typically collected from the neck then sent to the lab for analysis. You can expect your results back within 5-10 days after testing. Testing is a straightforward process that involves locating the jugular vein and drawing a small amount of blood into a syringe. Our team can guide you through this process before we take the samples it is a very straight forward process and our team will manage everything for you. (Should we point out that collecting blood isn’t something just anyone should or can do safely).
